Water conditions are still hampering rescue crews who expect the worst in the search for a missing boater.

The man and his young son were on the Locust Fork branch of the Warrior River when their canoe capsized Friday night.

Nineteen year old Derek Creel is being called a hero for diving in and saving the child, but he gives all the credit to God.

"Within a matter of seconds I had kicked off my boots and dove in," said Derek Creel.
He says they were swept three quarters of a mile downstream before they could latch on to a tree. By then Creel says the other man had stopped breathing.
Although he could not resuscitate the victim, the child survived.

Warrior Fire Fighters were so impressed they offered Creel a job.

"I'm not a lifeguard. Not even an exceptionally good swimmer. I was just trying to do the right thing," said Derek Creel.

A close friend of the missing man's family says the tragic situation would have been much worse if not for the brave bystander.

"What this young man has done was very, very courageous. What he did was awesome," said Thomas Weaver.

"I'll tell you who the true hero is in this situation. Jesus put me out here. He put me in this situation. He gave me the courage to jump in that water and he gave me the wisdom and physical ability to do what I did for the boy. I wish I could have done more, but uh he's the true hero of the day," said Derek Creel.

Creel says he would do it again if he had to.

Rescue and recovery workers from several local and state agencies responded to the accident Friday night and have worked on the three day search effort which is set to resume Tuesday.
