Methamphetamine use is a major problem in the United States, especially in rural communities. That is why the Etowah and Fayette County Sheriffs Offices teamed up to educate young people about Meth.

"People will get soars and they will scratch them off and eat them that’s pretty nasty and messed up," says Dalton Smith, a senior at Southside High School.

"The scariest thing I saw was the teeth and the woman how they looked so old after they do it," says Kailey Phillips, a sophomore at Southside High School.

Officers are hoping this program will scare the students straight. If children find out they could die doing drugs maybe they won't try them.

"It will make them think and will hopefully cause students to make the correct decisions in the long run," says Dr. Alan Cosby, the principal at Southside High School.

The final nail in coffin of this presentation was students actually seeing themselves lying in the casket.

"Death and how if you are on any drugs that you could possibly be laying here in the coffin," says Phillips.

"It’s scary because it’s what your parents and your family and friends see if you like OD and it shows what you look like it you are lying in the coffin," says Ashley Tucker, a sophomore at Southside High School.

"It definitely opened my eyes to it I would never put anything that harmful into my body," says Ryan Arnold, a senior at Southside High School.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies are the ones who put on this presentation. If you would like to have your children see this presentation, click on the web link or contact Chief Deputy Barry Corkren at 205-932-3205.
