BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) For years, many have been dealing with a smelly problem in their homes created by Chinese drywall.

Roughly 10,000 homes across the nation have Chinese drywall in them, several hundred here in the Birmingham area.

Local homeowners got an update from attorneys in the multi-jurisdictional litigation at the Metropolitan Church of God Tuesday night.

One attorney says the process is moving forward and that he hopes more homes are brought into the rehabilitation process within the next three months.

I discovered I had Knauff drywall in Feb of 2009 and immediately reported it to the local health departments and cpsc. I also wrote the governor and the President asking for help for myself and all victims. Its now been more than 2 yrs and not a response from anyone. I've written lawyers too asking how to get on this "list" for repairs and still no one will respond to me. We can't afford to move out and lose all we put into this house or ruin our credit. We tied up all of our money in this home to pay it off quicker. Was bad enough we built at the peak of the market but to have this as well is painful. My a/c coils go bad every 1.5 yrs and has to be replaced, metal corrodes and worst of all we breathe this air constantly. I've learned to have my windows open everyday to get fresh air in. I cannot believe our government has let us all down. Can't help it's own citizens but can help the rest of the world!
