A much more relaxed Larry Langford was greeted by members of the City Council early Tuesday morning before making a brief address to the public.
Although the Mayor faces serious Federal Charges he approached the audience with humor. "I can tell you, today is a much much better day than it was yesterday."
After-wards the Mayor elaborated slightly on his thoughts of how his arrest and indictment was handled by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The Mayor was arrested at his second job at 6:30am Monday morning. He was shackled and led to court while his co-defendants were allowed to turn themselves in. "There were no surprises yesterday... Maybe in how things were handled may have come as a surprise... That's life."
Langford indicated that he knew that an indictment was coming. And now that it has he says he's ready to move forward. "At least I now know what I'm dealing with. I don't have to deal with innuendos now. I don't have to deal with the he said, she saids."
The Mayor says he looks forward to having his story told in court, but as to the individual charges filed, he's saying very little. "There's an old saying, never justify your actions: your friends don't need it. Your enemies aren't going to believe it anyway. The people who believe in me will be there, and the people who have an agenda, they already have the agenda and the agenda won't change. That's what they've got a court for."
Langford was also asked if the indictment would press him into resigning but he says things will be business as usual at City Hall. "I was elected to do a job, and I'm going to do it."
