Jury selection begins in corruption retrial

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) - Defense attorneys, federal prosecutors and the judge in the state's gambling corruption retrial began the process of selecting a jury Monday. Some of the 200 in the current pool of potential jurors will eventually decide on the guilt or innocence of six people charged with buying and selling votes on gambling legislation.

The original trial ended in August. Two defendants were acquitted while the jury hung on counts involving seven others.

Three former and current state senators and a casino owner are among facing charges ranging from conspiracy to bribery to money laundering.
