Birmingham, Ala. (WIAT) -
A major break for the defense in the Gabe Watson murder trial. Kidnapping charges related to his wife's honeymoon death were dropped by the prosecution this morning, just as the jury selection got underway. The prosecution will undoubtedly try to present information that has not been heard. Earlier in the day, prosecutor Don Valeska announced the state would drop that kidnapping charge. From the start that seemed like a very hard sell, the state alleging Watson kidnapped his wife to take her on their honeymoon. On the remaining murder count, the state will have to prove Watson killed his wife, for some monetary gain. This is expected to be a long and expensive trial, lasting from three to four weeks.
