MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) - It's just a matter of time before we hear what is on wiretaps central to the bingo vote buying corruption trial in Montgomery. A jury has been seated.
After days of sometimes-bizarre questions from attorneys, they've been widdled down to a jury of 17: 12 jurors and 5 alternates.
With the long proceedings the past four days, the attorneys are hoping that Judge Myron Thompson does not make them start opening statements Thursday. They would prefer not splitting the 9 defendants statements over two days.
The judge has decided to also have five alternates in this trial instead of four.
Opening statements are scheduled to begin Friday at 9AM. The judge has allotted six and a half hours for opening statements and when you factor in lunch and breaks, it's a full day in court.
