BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A jury in Birmingham has ordered Tyson Foods Inc. to pay $250,000 for labor violations at its production plant in Blountsville.

Jurors ruled Wednesday that the Arkansas-based company didn't fairly compensate workers, and they said the company failed to keep accurate records for the time that employees worked.

The federal government claimed Tyson didn't pay workers for the time they spent putting on and taking off protective gear at work. The Department of Labor said violations from the year 2000 until now affect about 3,000 current and former workers.
