JASPER, Ala. (WIAT) - Legislators are considering a proposal to help pay for back-to-school supplies for teachers ... an expense many teachers pay for out of their own pocket.
The proposal would give an additional 300 dollars for teachers to buy supplies. I
f passed, the money would go to every classroom in public schools from Kindergarten to 12th grade.One teacher we spoke with in Jasper says even hitting every back-to-school sale out there, she spends up to 700 dollars out of her own pocket for school supplies each year. She adds that a first year teacher will typically spend up to two-thousand dollars on supplies since they are starting from scratch.
