Ifyou owe fines and court costs in Fultondale, the Municipal Court is offering achance to pay up and stay out of jail.
Municipal court issponsoring its first Amnesty program this Friday, October 23, from 8:30am to4:30pm for those who have either failed to appear for a court date or failed topay outstanding fines.
Court Clerk LeilaSnow estimates they have about 650 people with arrest warrants dating as farback as 1986.
Those with old finesor court costs can simply pay what they owe and avoid jail or additional fineson the charges. The court will also clear driver licenses of offenders so theycan have their licenses reinstated. After the court issued arrest warrants, itsuspended the offenders' driver licenses.
"It's just aneffort to clear out old warrants and at the same time give people someincentive to come in and take care of their obligations," said Mayor JimLowery.
If a person cannotpay the full fine, he or she will be able to work out a payment schedule withthe court's Probation Office. If there are charges pending that require a courtappearance, a court date will be set.
