MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama's gambling corruption trial is taking a day off. Defense attorney Joe Espy says lawyers received notification from the court last night that today's proceedings are canceled. He says no reason was given.

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — University of Alabama trustees have approved resolutions that will allow the school to become the home of a new national headquarters for water research. During a meeting yesterday, university trustees approved resolutions allowing for the construction of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Water Center.

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (AP) — Officials in Orange Beach hope that a new report will help allay fears that chemicals from oil spill dispersant have polluted local waters. An engineering team from Auburn University analyzed data from water samples collected after last year's spill and say it's unlikely that the chemicals originated from dispersant used during the response to the BP spill.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Dozens of animals left homeless by the spring tornadoes in Alabama will arrive in Louisville, Ky., today. Shelters in Kentucky and southern Indiana have agreed to take care of the dogs and cats.
