A police chase that claimed the life of an elderly woman in Brighton has the community concerned.
Lewis Williams is trying to come to grips with his grandmother's horrific death.
"It just wasn't right. Midfield didn't handle their situation. They didn't call Brighton and let them know, and now my grandmother is gone for nothing," Williams said on Thursday.
It all started in midfield around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon. Midfield police pulled over Marvin Brown for riding a four wheeler on the highway, and soon found he had a pending felony warrant. They say he then fled the scene, hopped into a stolen car, and minutes later, crashed into a vehicle carrying 86 year old Willie Williams.
That crash claimed her life.
"It’s a terrible, terrible tragedy that never should have happened," says Lt. Randy Christian with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
Shelia Crenshaw of Brighton isn’t too pleased with the Midfield Police Department.
"It’s a pity and a shame the way Midfield trailed folks from Midfield to Brighton. It could've been somebody's children out here, and it's a pity and a shame the way they took that lady's life and they should be held responsible," Crenshaw says.
Yet, Randy Christian says the fault lies with the suspect. The victim's other grandson was driving her at the time of the accident. He's in the hospital with a fractured back. The suspect, Marvin Brown, is also hospitalized. He is expected to be charged with murder.
