MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- "Republican Party Chairman Bill Armistead has gone on the record defending Scott Beason as one of the most ‘honorable people he knows,’” said Alabama Democratic Party Executive Director Bradley Davidson, “But I don’t know anyone who thinks it’s ‘honorable’ to repeatedly bad mouth entire communities.”

This is the second time this year Beason has made a public spectacle of himself knowingly using racist language – encouraging folks to “empty the clip and do what has to be done” when referring to Hispanics and now referring to black people as “illiterate” and “aborigines.”

Scott Beason is an embarrassment to the state of Alabama, and Senator Ben Brooks of Mobile has already denounced his Republican colleague. Armistead should take a lesson from Senator Brooks and acknowledge Beason’s language for what it is – offensive and bigoted.

Beason needs to go. He has lost his right to represent anyone in the State of Alabama. Playing politics is one thing, but racism is totally unacceptable.
