Cullman Monastery Renovations Taking Shape

CULLMAN, Ala. (WIAT) - Visitors describe the Sacred Heart Monastery in Cullman as an oasis of the Southeast.  It's one of the oldest structures in the city ... which is why the monastery is getting a multi-million dollar renovation.

The 8 million dollar project includes new central air and heating, replacing plumbing, adding an elevator and several building additions. Improvements will also be made on the Retreat Center which serves 2-thousand guests each year.

45 Benedictine sisters call Sacred Heart home.  The sisters say their founding members hoped to leave a lasting legacy, and thanks to this renovation their work in Cullman will continue for another hundred years.
