Let's be honest. Nobody likes to stand in line especially when it's for the privilege of payingbills, license fees, or renewing a car tag.

But ifyou're going to stand in line, as Kirstan Tylor says it's better to be close tohome, than not.

But with an order from the Alabama Supreme Court, the money needed to keep the convenience israpidly coming to a close, as the occupation tax which has been contested oflate is once again locked up in escrow.

Theloss of that occupation tax means the people of Jefferson County will endsuffering with the loss of services, things like the Tylor's local satellite courthouse in Center Point behind and three others just like it.

It's somethingcommissioners say they don't want to do, but closures are inevitable.

Taylor says she sees that as a problem for taxpayers. "Ithink it would put a lot of people out, like they wouldn't have anywhere to go,some of the older people that live around here, it will be trouble for them togo downtown, and stuff."

And thatmeans the convenience of getting your business done during your lunch hour islikely over.

Odessa Scottsays she just doesn't have the time to take off work to get her business done with the county. "I'm going in late anyway, but I told my boss I'd be in right around about12:30, 1-o-clock if I would have gone downtown, I would have been herelonger."

But Commissioner Shelia Smoot says anything could still happen.

"Ifthese are services the general community wants us to keep, we really need tohear from them. And we need to hear from them soon!"
