BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A 14-year-old Birmingham middle school student has been arrested after he was found with a shotgun hidden in his pants leg at school.
Birmingham city schools spokeswoman Michaelle Chapman said the teen hid the shotgun in a bathroom ceiling when he arrived at Ossie Ware Mitchell Middle School Wednesday.
He retrieved it later in the day and hid it in his pants.
Another student alerted school officials and the teen allowed the principal to search him and confiscate the weapon.
Officials say it wasn't loaded and the student didn't have any ammunition.
He said he planned to sell it to an adult after school and was going to hide it behind the school but couldn't because his mother gave him a ride that morning.
The school was briefly placed on lockdown.
