The brawl between Hoover and Spain Park high schools on Friday during the area tournament was the topic of much discussion and analysis this morning in Montgomery.

Athletic directors from both schools met with Alabama High School Athletic Association officials to review the footage.

The altercation, which occurred with only a minute left in the game, resulted in the ejection of several Hoover players.

Hoover's coach was automatically thrown out as a result of his team racking up three technical fouls.

Spain Park, who played this evening, received no sanctions by the AHSAA, but Hoover could pay the price.

"The precedent has been set in the past for monetary fines, but we don't have the written report just yet of how we will be affected by this investigation," says Jason Gaston, spokesman for Hoover City Schools.

Spain Park Coach Brian Moon says the officials were effective in controlling the altercation.

"I mean that situation could get ugly, and I think they did a good job...and I think the players once they realized what was going on restrained themselves on the Hoover side."

Gaston says in high school sports tensions can run high late in the season.

"So it's understandable, but regrettable, and we just hope that everyone can learn from this experience."

This is why every1 thinks this country is racist. Everyone was so quick to call him racists names, quick to say he should be arrested, quick to say he is wrong for picking the small guys. Did anyone notice that the video is edited and enhance to make the black guy look horrible. YOU ALL missed the short white guy running across the floor out of formation slapping the tall black guy on the side of the head for no damn reason. The ball was in front, at arm level, why did he reach so high and hit the black kid on the side of the ear. How did you miss it? Because the editor didnt zoom in and add text when the white kid hit the black kid first. Who ever the racists bastards are that edited this, didnt zoom in on that. It is so easy to think a black kid went crazy without provocation - but I knew better, so I slowed it down, and played it back. Why would a kid, who successfully got the rebound, just start pushing people around. Because, at least one of them slapped him as he was running down field. Looks like he at first hit the wrong guy, (b/c he ran), and then he went after the right guy. I'm not saying he wasnt wrong, but if someone slammed me upside my head, I would hit them back too - and it's not because I'm black, white, yellow or green. Now if you have a semblance of decency, and can look with an open mind, watch the video again. If the truth is worth your time, you may have to slow it down and watch it twice. Between the rebound and the first hit. . .

There is an excellent video on YouTube of the complete events/assaults here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BodXuSjeSw I watched the 2/6 Spain Park-Hoover area tournament game played at Oak Mountain, including the ugliest and most dangerous display I’ve witnessed in nearly 50 years of watching High School sports. Hoover #23 (Booker) committed at least two acts of assault & battery in a crowded auditorium, including a sucker punch, ALL CAUGHT ON HD VIDEO. I believe the 5 game 'suspension' of Booker is a scandalous travesty of justice, as I suspect the over 21,600 viewers of the youtube video agree. Booker is to be suspended from only 5 meaningless, basically pre-season games, and a meaningless early season tournament. Hoover, the richest school in the state pays a meaningless fine. Booker, who would be Hoover's best player next year, received no suspension from any Area (e.g. meaningful) games; less than a slap on the wrist, and shameful. Any similar action by another athlete at another school, or even such an action by an ordinary student at ANY SCHOOL ACTIVITY would result in severe discipline, including suspension from ALL SCHOOL ACTIVIES, sent to CrossRoads, etc. Booker should have been barred from participating in ANY further high school athletics. The little wrist slap that AHSAA and Hoover did here has lowered the standard for conduct, invites additional such occurrences, reinforces the idea that Hoover and it’s athletes receives special treatment, and failed to adequately punish and discipline a dangerous thug. How would you feel if your son was one of those assaulted by Booker, or about your son playing against Hoover/Booker next year? The Hoover school board, School administration, or the BB coach can (and should) levy additional suspensions and penalties beyond what AHSAA minimum. I hope the media does not allow this Hoover/AHSAA scandalous travesty to stand.
