SYLACAUGA, Ala. (WIAT) - Many questions remain in the shooting death of a Talladega County attorney. First, R. Blake Lazenby's burning vehicle was found in Tarrant. Then his body was discovered in his Sylacauga home around 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, according to police.
Talladega County Coroner Shaddix Murphy says Lazenby was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds in the dining room of his home on Stonehill Road.
Murphy says it appears that a handgun was used, but there was not one found at the scene. Neighbors and friends are still reeling from the news.
"Of course great sadness because Blake was a good friend and truly a good guy. But of course any time you have this kind of violence in the community, and this is a quiet neighborhood, then it's frightening. You know, you think about maybe I ought to be a little more vigilant or maybe I ought to be a little more careful," said Mike Landers. "My neighbors are all concerned because we've never had anything like this and we've never anticipated having anything like this in our neighborhood."
The Sylacauga Police Department and the Talladega County District Attorney's Office are conducting a joint investigation into what happened.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the Sylacauga Police Department Investigations Division (256) 401-2464 or the anonymous tip line at (256) 249-4716.
