On May 16th, 1995 Bill Clinton was in the White House, the Dallas Cowboys were Superbowl champions, and no one had heard of an I-pod, let alone an I-phone.
But it was on that date just down the road from Lay Dam that the Coosa Sheriff's Department began investigating a double homicide... It's an investigation which has gone unsolved until now.
Sheriff Terry Wilson says the victims told law enforcement authorities they had been tied up, robbed and set on fire by unknown assailants.
The victims were inside a hunting cabin in the woods off of County Road 55.
Their cabin was destroyed before the men themselves were set on fire. 41-year old Charles Amberson and 39-year old Darell Coleman did not survive. The third victim, Roger Firestone, did survive but suffered severe burns.
Coosa Prosecutor Frank Teel says a witness came forward in recent years and that an interview conducted at the time got the investigation back on track...
Teel adds the information provided allowed the County to charge L.C. Collins Junior, Mickie Wayne Collins, and Charles Tooley with murder.
Sheriff Wilson says these arrests are proof that even if a case grows cold, it's never forgotten.
