The Animal Rescue Foundation in Sylacauga has no air conditioning and the heat is causing the animals to get sick. Most of the illnesses are minor and can be treated with antibiotics but the facility can’t afford the medication, so they will begin euthanizing animals this Tuesday.
“The sick ones first because we don’t want them to suffer, but 75 percent of our animals are healthy loving animals,” says Jaclyn Cosper the foundation president.
There is another problem as well; the facility is also over crowded so if people don’t come out to adopt soon they might have to put down even more animals.
“Right now because we are so over populated the only option may be putting down healthy animals,” says Cosper.
An air conditioning unit has been donated to the facility but they need a contractor to install the equipment.
