LEEDS, Ala. (WIAT) --- A
t speeds topping one hundred fifty miles an hour, Jason Pridmore whips around the nearly two and half mile circuit at Barber Motorsports Park in just over a minute.
The retired 2 time AMA champ is back for the AMA Superbike Classic this weekend, where tens of thousands of racing fans come to watch the very best."I think the sport is definitely on the rise again here. I think with the economy getting better and things like that people are enjoying themselves a bit more so hopefully we get a great crowd," Pridmore says.
So what's it like to race around the track at lightning fast speeds?
Well- what better way to find out than to hop on the other side of the fence.
That's right. I'm going in.
They got me suited up, my adrenaline pumping, and prepped for the opportunity of a lifetime.
After a short prep talk from my driver- I held on for dear life, and sat back and at least tried to enjoy the ride.
Nothing can describe the thrill, excitement, and terrorizing fear that comes with every turn.
With decades of experience, Pridmore showed the track who's boss. As for me- I was doing my best to act cool.
After the longest two minutes of face numbing excitement, we were home free, and I was a little shaky.
"You did awesome thanks for going!" exclaims Pridmore after my ride.
As for my career in racing? It may be short lived.
Although I almost fell off at one point, it was absolutely the coolest thing I have ever done in my life.
