Times are tough everywhere. The weak economy is forcing many businesses to make drastic cuts. But, there is a silver lining for the faithful. Many local churches are taking a financial leap of faith in a dark economy.

High school students set up the band in the new 3 million dollar family life center at Mountaintop Community Church. It's the newest addition to the 4 thousand member church.

Church members say they're proud of the new facility.

Despite hard economic times, Wayne Hudson says this time was the right time to build.

"When we decided to build it, the church rallied behind it with a 3 year commitment to make this happen as an outreach to the community," Jason Daggett says.

"We have a good relationship with our bank who helped us with a loan and the mortgage, the interest rates were very attractive," he says.

Mountaintop isn't the only church taking a leap of faith in a weak economy.

At Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, you can see there is spray paint in the grass this marks the spot where the new children's wing will be built. Building Committee Chairman, Chris Byrd says the time is now to build the dream.

"We see this as an opportunity to take advantage of the economic times, prices should be good for us right now financing should be good for us right now," Byrd says.

Even though people are tightening their belts across the nation, business is booming at local churches.

Building plans for Dawson's children's wing should be complete by December, with construction complete in about a year.
