ALABASTER, Ala. (WIAT) - The decision has been made. The City of Alabaster will have it's own school system. It's just going to take a little time to make it happen.
That was the vote at Monday night's city council meeting. To fund the new system, the council also voted to institute a new one cent sales tax. All of the revenue generated by the new tax is earmarked for the new school system.
Councilor Adam Moseley says a school board will be appointed some time next spring. And the earliest the city could make the break with Shelby County will come in July 2013.
