Robert Bentley is a candidate for the Governor of Alabama. A resident of Tuscaloosa, he was actually born and raised in the Shelby County town of Columbiana. He has been married for over 40 years to his wife Dianne, originally from Montgomery. This father of four also has five grandchildren. Robert is a member of the First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa where he serves both as a Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher.
Knowing from a young age that he wanted to become a Doctor, he quickly enrolled himself into the University of Alabama shortly after graduating from Shelby County High School. It only took him 3 short years to graduate with a Bachelors degree in Science. From their, it was on to The University of Alabama School of Medicine where he obtained his M.D.
Less than a year after graduating with his M.D. he enrolled in the United States Air Force. He served as Captain in the Air Force during Vietnam. While there, he also served as a medical officer. He is a life long member of Vietnam Veterans of America and is a proud member of the American Legion.
