Very glad tonight to be able to host a showing of this excellent piece of investigative journalism at the University of Montevallo. A huge thanks to the reporters at CBS 42 for having the guts to air such a controversial issue, and for coming to our campus to hear what our students had to say about the issue. So long as you all continue to shine the light on this situation, our students will continue to do all that we can to support our neighbors in North Birmingham. -UM Environmental Club

This is very disturbing and makes me outraged. why do the people, who are put in place to protect us, still have their jobs. So what can we expect in the future? Is north Birmingham going to turn into a deserted wasteland while these companies continue to destroy the air we all breath? Disgusting.

So! While we've got the environmental police peeping in our yards looking for junk cars and parking on the streets, why aren't they concerned about the toxins that's killing us. We'll get a ticket for parking in your front yard, but you'll probably die from the toxins in the air. Where is the justice? You don't have to wonder long. We' are constantly preached to about not smoking but the cancer is coming from the air. When you tell the health officials that I don't smoke where did the cancer come from? Second hand smoke of course! In the air! Maybe the tar in the cigaretts coated your lungs to protect you from inhaling arsenic.

First, I would like to express my appreciation to Ken Lass and Sherri Jackson for their excellent reporting and to the folk who spoke out and are standing up for themselves and for all of the citizens of Jefferson County. Please do not give up or relent. I grew up in Tarrant and in the late 40s and 50s the air quality was horrendous and the black filth spread across our communities. All up and down my street people were sick and dying. Cancer took life after life, including that of both our parents. However, we did nothing. We were too passive. We talked about it among ourselves, but did nothing. I moved away when I went to college, but that has always marked my memories of my life in Tarrant and Birmingham. It had seemed to me in recent years that the air was somewhat cleaner, but this report has shown that this is not the case. As in other areas of our society, greed often dictates the willingness of people to disregard the well-being of others. Money and the power that it brings causes horrendous consequences. Unless we are vigilant, even our lives and the lives of our children will be taken from us.

That story is heartbreaking! All of those people trapped in that toxic area with no where to go and no one to help them. Where are the Erin Brockovich's of Alabama? Thank you CBS for shining the light on this injustice...and shame on you to the agencies that have allowed it all to happen. Collegeville, you are in my prayers!

Wow! That was truly an eye-opening! It saddens me that so many people have to live with these deadly chemicals in their homes and their children have to go to school in it! Why is more not being done to stop this?! The companies pollute our neighborhoods and officials let them!
