“I heard the gunshot, it was very loud, I mean it sounded like it was right there,” Kasie Schroeder says she heard the commotion around 10pm Monday.  She came out of her apartment to find her neighbor, Crimson Tide football player Brandon Deaderick shot.

“He had blood all over his pants and they put him on a stretcher and took him off,” she adds.

Tuscaloosa Police say they have limited details on exactly what happened at the Rivermont Apartment complex before the shooting, except that there was a robbery attempt.

“When we got here, officers made contact with a black male identified as a University of Alabama football player by the name of Brandon Deaderick, he had been shot once in the forearm,” says TPD Chief Steve Anderson.

Police searched an abandoned truck parked down the road from the apartments, unsure if it’s related to the crime or not.  They still don’t have Deaderick’s shooter in custody.

“He was approached by an unknown black male suspect that was wearing a dark cap, bandanna and had some type of black shirt and the suspect demanded that he ‘give it up,’ and at that point in time, he was shot,” says Chief Anderson.

Deaderick was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.
