Stephen Hauck
Anchor / Reporter
Stephen is originally from San Diego, California but moved to Huntsville, Alabama at age ten where he grew up. He attended Troy State University in Troy, Alabama where he anchored and reported on the campus television station for three years. While in college, Stephen won Associated Press awards for anchoring and reporting, as well as other awards for videography. Also at T.S.U. Stephen was the public address announcer for several Trojan athletic teams and performed similar announcing duties for the Huntsville Stars minor league baseball team.
He graduated from Troy State with a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Speech Communications. After college, Stephen took his first job as a reporter and fill-in anchor for a Comcast Cable news station CNWG-TV in Rome, Georgia. Six months later, Stephen accepted a reporter/videographer position here at CBS 42 in Birmingham. He eventually began filling in for both news and sports anchors before taking the full-time weekend sports anchoring position in April of 2000. That Fall, Stephen also began anchoring weekend news, which he did for 8 years. Stephen currently anchors weekdays on CBS 42 News at Ten.
He has covered many stories that have received national attention, including the deadly F-5 tornado of 1998, the Birmingham abortion clinic bombing and the search and capture of Eric Rudolph, the road rage murder in Shelby County, the tragic Jim Walter mine explosion that killed 13 miners, and the fraud and corruption scandal at HealthSouth. Stephen has interviewed many local and national figures and celebrities including: Charles Barkley, Tiger Woods, Jessie Jackson, L.L. Cool J, Jane Goodall, Johnnie Cochran, Todd Bridges, baseball hall-of-famer Ozzie Smith, U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, as well as numerous mayors, governors, senators and representatives. Stephen has received professional awards from both the Associated Press and the Alabama Broadcasters Association, including being recognized as the "best television reporter" in the state.
Stephen lives in Shelby County with his wife Kelly, and children, Haley and Cameron. The Haucks are very involved with their church and it's numerous ministries. Since moving to Birmingham in 1998, they have volunteered countless hours to several causes, including: M-Power ministries in Birmingham, working with inner-city children and youth, visiting the elderly, and volunteer their time with dozens of local Hispanic youth as mentors and as a support group for them. Stephen and his wife are also very involved in international missions work with Forgotten Children Ministries in Honduras. The Hauck family sponsors two Honduran children, and travels to Central America on a regular basis on mission trips which assist with FCM's efforts.
