Scott Griffin
Sports Anchor/Reporter

Grandma Murphy used to always say “that boy is either going to be an announcer or a preacher.” Well, with today’s religious fervor surrounding college football in Alabama, she was right on both counts.

It was always a personal dream of Scott Griffin to cover sports, interview athletes and coaches and entertain anyone willing to lend an ear. While the goal of being the next Howard Cosell on Monday Night Football has not been reached, many other interesting roads have been taken.

From humble beginnings in radio for WSGN AM 610 as a disc jockey to the current position of Sports Analyst on CBS 42’s Inside College Football. It has been a long and winding road from the beginning to today. Griffin’s career has included stops at NBC 13, WBRC-TV, WJOX radio, pre and post game host for the Tennessee Titans and a year long stint as the number one contracted weekend host for ESPN Radio’s Gamenight show heard on over 400 stations nationwide.

In 1990, the Birmingham native was named the Alabama Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. Those items along with being the Samford University play by play voice as they went to back to back NCAA tournaments are among Griffin’s career highlights.

Currently, Scott also does a segment with the CBS 42 morning show Wake Up Alabama Mondays at 5:15am. Griffin is in his 14th year at Citadel Broadcasting as well as the host of the “The Cage with Scott Griffin” show on WSPZ AM 690 from 6am to 9am.

When not finding facts and stories in the sports world, Griffin also stays busy in the mortgage business and in media sales.

In his spare time, Scott likes to stay in shape by weight lifting, bike riding, basketball and many other activities. His joy comes in spending time with his daughters Lesley and Hannah. The oldest is a talented dancer and loves the arts and music while the youngest is a gifted athlete in softball and basketball. Both are good students and share Griffin’s love of laughter.
