Mark Prater
Chief Meteorologist
Mark is happy to be back in Birmingham as Chief Meteorologist for CBS 42. You can join Mark for his forecast Monday through Friday on CBS 42 and on the web at CBS42.com.
Mark's a full member of both the NWA (National Weather Association) and the AMS (American Meteorological Society). He also holds the seal of approval for both the NWA and AMS organizations. After 19 years in television and radio, Mark has enjoyed being a meteorologist for markets all over the country, but his heart and home has always been here in Alabama.
During his first ten years in Birmingham, Alabama, Mark was fortunate enough to be named Birmingham's Best News/Weather anchor for a number of years.
While living in the beautiful Midwest for 2 ½ years, Mark enjoyed experiencing the various weather patterns of the mid latitudes of the United States. From blizzards to tornadoes, he also has enjoyed the new challenges of forecasting so many regions across the country.
Nationally recognized for his experience and knowledge of severe weather, Prater has been honored to receive the coveted National Edward R. Murrow Award and Emmy Award for his on air work as a Broadcast Meteorologist.
Prater also looks forward to bringing Central Alabama severe weather coverage that so many viewers have been looking for.
Mark is married to his best friend, Carol Willis of Prattville, Alabama. Mark and Carol have four children who are the lights of their lives. Both Mark and Carol have truly enjoyed the television industry and the blessings they've received from it, but it's the time with all four of their children that they value the most. Their walk with Christ is something they focus on everyday with their children, teaching them how their relationship with the LORD should be the main focus in life.
