Alexa Jones anchors CBS 42’s morning show, Wake Up Alabama, weekdays from 5—7 AM. She also serves as CBS 42’s health reporter where she presents a daily Health Watch report on Wake Up Alabama as well as CBS 42 News at 5.
Alexa is a native of Andalusia, Alabama and graduate of Andalusia High School. Throughout her life she has been immersed in the arts, studying classical ballet as well as theatre, painting, drawing, and sculpture. Alexa attended Birmingham-Southern College where she majored in English and minored in art. At BSC she was a member of Sigma Tau Delta English Honorary, Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, and Student Government Association and in 2003 was named Miss Birmingham-Southern College.
Alexa is the founder and chairperson of the Renaissance Foundation of Alabama, Inc. which is a non-profit organization that has provided art supplies and instruction to various Alabama school systems. For her work in the arts, Alexa has been awarded the Presidential Student Service Award and Daily Point of Light Award (#2218). She has also worked as a Directional Arts Outreach Affiliate for the Smithsonian Institute and has collaborated with the Annenberg Foundation’s ‘Arts for Academic Achievement’ initiative in Minneapolis. After college, Alexa interned at New York’s Museum of Modern Art as well as Alabama’s Birmingham Museum of Art.
In 2005, Alexa was crowned Miss Alabama and was named Second Runner-Up to Miss America 2006 as well as Second Runner-Up to the Miss America Quality of Life Community Service Award.
She joined CBS 42 in July of 2007 after working on her Master’s degree in art history at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has interviewed Bob Schieffer, Jenny McCarthy, Lou Diamond Phillips, Musiq Soulchild, Fionnula Hughes, and Mark Consuelos. Alexa has enjoyed reporting for sports coverage of the 2007 and 2008 Iron Bowls, 2008 Magic City Classic, and 2008 Regions Charity Classic Golf Tournament. She also done guest spots on 98.7 KISS FM, 102.5 The Bull, WERC 960, and The Roundtable on 94.5 JOX sports radio.
Alexa is very involved in the arts and community causes and is a junior board member of the Autism Society of Alabama. She loves spending time at her family’s farm in South Alabama. She also enjoys yoga, concerts, traveling, and spending time with her English setter, Lola.
