Governor Riley has authorized bankruptcy lawyers to take over negotiations with creditors to help restructure the county’s massive $3.2 billion sewer debt.  Jefferson County Commissioners met with Governor Riley late this week to discuss the positives for filing Chapter 9 bankruptcy.

If filed, Jefferson County would be responsible for the largest municipal filing to date.
