Firefight on Voice Mail

Imagine this...you come home, check your messages and hear your horrified son struggling to survive a gun battle in a war zone!

That’s exactly what happened to a stunned Oregon family, when they found a three minute recording of an intense firefight on their voice mail.

You see, Sandie and Jeff Peete's son is on active duty in Afghanistan.  Apparently his cell phone re-dialed his parents’ home while he was in the middle of a shootout.

So there they are, standing there listening to gun fire, cursing and screams for more ammunition.  Then, the message stopped abruptly, really freaking everyone out.

"It's something a parent really doesn't want to hear. You know, it's a heck of a message to get from your kid in Afghanistan,” said Jeff Petee.

"His friend died a year ago in Iraq and I'm thinking, oh my God, this might be the last time I hear my son's voice on the phone," said Sandie Petee.

The good news, Stephen Phillips is okay.  He’s scheduled to return home from Afghanistan when his tour is complete.
