Sara Sanders Meteorologist Sara Sanders joined the CBS 42 weather team as a meteorologist in September of 2003. Before moving back to Birmingham, she was a meteorologist in Tuscaloosa at WVUA-TV. Sara graduated from the University of Alabama with a major in broadcast news and a minor in Spanish. Following graduation, Sara worked on a Master’s in Spanish Education at the University of Alabama. Her lifetime interest in the weather led her to Mississippi State University where she received her Master’s of Science in broadcast meteorology. She has covered many severe weather events in the state including hurricanes, floods, and tornado outbreaks. One unexpected experience was being involved in an earthquake while visiting San Francisco. In addition to forecasting the weather at CBS 42, Sara teaches Spanish to pre-school age children at seven Birmingham area schools. Having grown up in Birmingham, Sara has always been active in our community. She supports the local arts by serving as a member of the Birmingham Ballet Guild and the Museum of Art Junior Patrons. She enjoys working on fund raisers for the Alabama Pointe Ball, Museum Ball, McWane Center, City Stages, and the charities of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Besides fund raising and planning special events, Sara volunteers with the Junior League of Birmingham and also serves as a member of the prayer team at Canterbury United Methodist Church. She is very active with the Young Professionals of Birmingham and was recently crowned the Young Professional Queen of Birmingham by raising the most money for her charity, The Salvation Army - disaster relief services. When not working, Sara loves spending time with her husband, Joseph, as well as the rest of her family and friends. Other interests include supporting benefits, exercising, cooking, attending concerts, traveling, watching football, and increasing environmental awareness. |
