Michael Nix Website Administrator Michael Nix has worked at CBS 42 since November 2004 and has been the Website Administrator for CBS42.com since June 2005. Michael began his career in broadcasting in early 2002 at WVUA 7 in Tuscaloosa as a part-time production assistant while a student at the University of Alabama. When he left WVUA he had worked his way up to full-time newscast director. He had an interest in doing it all behind the scenes, having worked as a master control operator, audio operator, video editor, photographer, website designer and even assisted in the station’s programming department. He was part of the team at WVUA to win the 2004 Best Documentary award from the Alabama Associated Press. Michael, along with a few friends at the University of Alabama, produced a local public affairs/variety show called SpeakEasy. The show aired on WVUA and was one of the very few to be on a commercial TV station and be totally student run. He helped do everything from producing to directing. Michael got the chance to interview then Congressman Bob Riley in 2002 during his first bid for governor. One of his favorite shows to produce was a special with Ghostwriter Dr. Alan Brown who discussed area “ghosts” he wrote about in his book. Michael was part of the SpeakEasy crew to win two National Broadcaster's Society awards in 2003 and again in 2004. Since working at CBS 42, Michael had the opportunity to help cover hurricanes during the active 2005 hurricane season. He spent time at sister stations WMBB in Panama City, Florida to help cover Hurricane Dennis in July 2005 and then to WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi in August 2005 to help cover Hurricane Katrina. He also helped cover Hurricane Rita practically in his backyard as the hurricane caused some small tornadoes as it blew over west Alabama in September 2005. Today, Michael continues to maintain CBS42.com as well as kimt.com, the website for KIMT, CBS 42's sister station in Mason City, Iowa. For a brief time in 2006, Michael was the interim online producer for WRBL in Columbus, Georgia. Michael was born and raised in Tuscaloosa County. He’s a 1998 graduate of Brookwood High School and a 2004 graduate of the University of Alabama, receiving a B.A. in Telecommunications and Film with a minor in Political Science. |
